Compassionate. That is a word that family and friends have used to describe me since I was a young child. I have always wanted to lessen the pain and hurt in both humans and animals. If a friend skinned his knee while we were playing, I’d run home to ask my mom for a band aid. And if I encountered any animal injured while we were out, my family knew I would ask them to stop to try and help it.
As I’ve gotten older my love for, and desire to help, animals has continued to increase. Helping rehabilitate dogs and cats, by caring for them post-surgery, playing with them and showing them the love they may not have received in their previous homes, are some of my greatest achievements as a volunteer animal shelter attendant. Taking care of the animals at the shelter has also further allowed me to find a way to combine my love of animals with my interests in medicine. I hope to continue my dedication to assisting animals by receiving my undergraduate degree in Animal & Veterinary Sciences from Tuskegee University and then graduating from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. My leadership skills and experience, extra-curricular activities, and community involvement, along with my current GPA of 3.933, led to me becoming a Tuskegee Pre-Veterinary Medicine Scholar. This achievement will further prepare me to fulfill academic requirements and acquire professional development needed for Veterinary College acceptance, while also allowing me to complete my undergraduate journey in three years instead of four. This gives me the opportunity to begin Vet School earlier so that I can begin my career caring for animals even sooner.
In addition to my volunteer and current academic achievements, I have also earned several certifications from Animal Care Technologies. These include:
Physical Examination of a Canine Patient
Physical Examination of a Feline
Understanding Canine
Safety in the Veterinary
Veterinary Cannabis Therapeutics
Medical Terminology
Anesthesia
Bathing & Caring for Orphaned Animals
With my current triumphs and continued desire to reach my goal of becoming a traveling veterinarian, I am seeking one more achievement – the opportunity to intern with a veterinary clinic that is as compassionate about animal care as I am. I have the passion and determination to become a successful veterinarian that will treat animals in areas that need care the most. With my education, volunteer experience, and an internship, I can help animals get the treatment they need, give families a peace of mind that their family pet will receive proper care and help farmers keep their livestock healthy, so their income stream remains profitable – improving the quality of life for countless pet families and farmers for years to come.
